La Clase Magica is an after school program geared towards closing the education achievement gap for minorities and under privileged communities in San Diego. LCM takes place every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon throughout the school year. Los Robles is a unique community where most of the children who come to LCM live in the surrounding houses. The community garden was started in February of 2010, when CASA and Victory Gardens provided supplies and volunteers to break ground and motivate the community. Since then, through gardening lessons and environmental curriculum, the children have been participating in the upkeep and hands-on learning in the garden.
This Blog was created as a part of the Hubs of Innovation Curriculum, to promote Environmental Stewardship among participants and to engage them in learning about their role as Good Stewards. Through the organic garden outside the La Clase Magica learning center, to science activities and play, participants can become “experts” about their environment.
