Quien es El Maga? Well the stories say that El Maga forms an identity through your imagination, and cannot exist unless you write about los aventuras que tiene!
Recently, El Maga has returned from living on a part of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Do you know where that is? It is a huge island in the ocean made entirely out of our trash!

You can look it up on the web or look at this site:
http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/translating-uncle-sam/stories/what-is-the-great-pacific-ocean-garbage-patch
Apparently Maga was concerned about some of the ocean life that swims by all this trash and was living there and caring for the animals that get hurt by the plastics.
For Maga's birthday this year, write a story about the trash island where El Maga was, how long he/she was there, and what he/she did. Tell Maga what you think about the travels. Be creative! You can even tell El Maga what you have been learning about water in the world!

ReplyDeleteDear Maga querida/o, it must have been so so sad to see so much trash out in the ocean. In a city south of the U.S./Mexico border the community of Popolan collected trash and made art projects on a wall. Trash actually looked beautiful! Maybe we could do that at Los Robles. Your friend,

Hola hijos! Gracias para escribirme estas cartas bonitas! Yo estaba viajando por muchos meses en busca de lo que hay viviendo encima del mar profundo! I have been traveling many months on a quest to learn about what is living above the deep ocean!
As real as you imagine me to be! I like your question, there are sooo many wonderful sea animals! I will send pictures (: i saw seaturtles, which float so magestically! However many of them had cuts on their necks from plastic bottle holders, and i removed some plastic bags from their flippers so they could swim better. I also saw a giant sun-fish, do you know what those look like? they are very strange creatures. I also saw lots of colorful fish, but manyof them were sick from eating plastic bits they thought were food. It made me very sad.
Melanie- Me lleno de orgulloso oir que estas carinoso de tu ambiente! Good job throwing away your trash when you see it lying around. your small actions have a big impact, i learned this after seeing where all the trash goes in the ocean. Please keep doing this! You can also help by recycling, because then we can make new things from already used plastics.
Angelly- Como estas? que bueno tener correspendencia de ti! thank you for asking about my trip! One of the things i did was to study the water near the trash island. Did you know there are thousands of tiny particles of plastic that cannot degrade or break down? They just float around and fish eat them and then they get sick. I tried to help as many fish as possible, but i could not save all of them.
Gracias para tus cartas! escribame mas en EL MAGA BLOG!
